Conceptual understanding plays a vital role in physics education, enabling students to develop logical thinking and construct scientific arguments based on evidence. However, many students struggle with abstract physics concepts and find it difficult to articulate their ideas clearly. This study aims to investigate the impact of the Think Pair Share (TPS) cooperative learning model on students’ conceptual understanding of sound waves. The research was conducted at a public senior high school in Bandung, involving 36 eleventh-grade students. A quasi-experimental method was employed using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research instrument consisted of essay-type questions administered before and after the TPS implementation. Students’ conceptual understanding was assessed using normalized gain (n-gain). The results showed an n-gain score of 0.87, which is categorized as high. These findings suggest that the TPS model encourages active participation and peer discussion, which significantly improves students’ comprehension of physics concepts. Thus, the TPS model is a promising strategy for teaching abstract topics such as sound waves in high school physics.
